Let's Go!

"There are only three sports. Mountain climbing, bullfighting and motor racing - all the rest being games." So wrote Ernest Hemingway. With this clearly defined, The Gonz, dressed in his best, announced "Let's go!"

A 30km Paddle Across The Gulf

Are we there yet?!!!

Awaking at 6:00hrs We were greeted by a grey sky and dampness in the air. The water offered not a ripple and after a breakfast of heated baked beans (not the resort's), we were in the water at 8:55hrs for the 30km paddle across the Hauraki Gulf to Coromandel. Winds were not predicted until later in the day.

Briefly encountered some indigenous dolphins (Hectors?) and some winds across the port beam at approx 11:00hrs but felt strong after the good rest the previous day. I even put the Ipod on to drown out Gonzo's ramblings and sang out loud, such was my pleasure.

At low tide I was forced to march the kayak a kilometre up a tidal estuary to the very pretty town of Coromandel where we grabbed a room at the extremely well kept Coromandel Holiday Park.
