The view!
Camilla, it's me, Gonzo!
What time zone are you guys on?!!!
I win, again!
Packed up camp and achieved another 20km. Little wind as we followed Waiheke's bays and shores before skirting across to Pakatoa where we'd been informed there was a resort that might offer shelter.
Haunting in that it appeared that it had simply been abandoned in haste. Tractors sitting idle with flat tyres, linen still on the beds, cutlery in the dining rooms, some food and beverages in the storeroom, and alcohol in the bar. I helped myself to a Xmas pudding - they get better with age - however the creamed corn with a Best Before date of 2000 had a decidedly 'metallic' taste to it. Note to owners: I owe you for 1 x pudding, 1 x 625gm creamed corn, 6 x 500ml water.
Gonzo went off to play bowls - I believe he rather enjoyed having the place to himself - whilst I was interviewed over the phone for a national radio segment (http://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/thisweek/hourrecs/Sun,%20Nov%2029%2016.00%20trn-newstalk-zb-akl.asf 10min 45sec in), before I took a 2 hour nap. Awoke and got the portable stove working and had a meal from the dehydrated chicken, veg and mash. This was followed by Xmas pudding. It was brilliant and I went back to a peaceful sleep!
Gonzo ended up making the most of the resort's many facilities.
