Let's Go!

"There are only three sports. Mountain climbing, bullfighting and motor racing - all the rest being games." So wrote Ernest Hemingway. With this clearly defined, The Gonz, dressed in his best, announced "Let's go!"

Mount Maunganui

I chose to rest again today. I want to provide the body with every opportunity to consolidate on what it has achieved so far. We also had another telephone hook-up with Murray Deaker on ZB Radio planned for 3:00pm.
As it turned out the day was sunny so I took the oportunity to climb the 292m Mount Maunganui. Gonzo stayed with the tent. I think he was still coming to terms with his dunking of the previous day.
It was a far bigger task than I expected but gratifying none-the-less. It was amusing to see this sign, clearly placed for those descending the hill, suggesting that a moderate or high level of fitness was required. This, in my mind begged the question, what level was required for the ascent?

Mt Maunganui located immediately adjacent to the campground.

The tracks were pretty.
Some of the views were excellent.
Looking down on the campground. It was high!
It was interesting also to look back up the coast to see from where we'd come.
